Sam Mbatha's family issues statement after rumours he was killed for being gay

The rate at which LGBT members are being killed in South Africa these days is becoming alarming. Yesterday, rumours have it that Sam Mbatha was killed because of his sexuality - gay.


According to the rumours, his attackers was put in the boot of his car and set him on fire. Now, his family members have come out to say that they aren't sure if he was murdered because of his sexuality.

Sam Mbatha's death came after Anele Bhengu was killed for being a lesbian in South Africa. Friends and LGBT have taken to social media to trend the hash tag, #JusticeForSamMbatha. 

Sam was a promising Marketing, Brand and Digital communications professional. He had just recently bought his first car and his career was finally taking off. He was the only hope of his mom. 

He also a sport analyst and an alumni of North West University. 

"Anele Bhengu (22) was found raped and brutally stabbed to a point where her intestines were hanging out of her body in Kwamakhutha KZN. R.I.P Anele," a source says. 

The statement reads:

"On behalf of Sam Junior Mbatha's family and close friends, we would like the public to note the following:

"Sam's car was found burnt on Thursday morning. 
The SAPs (South African Police), family and close friends have not declared the identity of the victim who burned in the car. 
The family has not issued any statement to the public prior to this one, as they are respecting the laws and procedures of the investigation. 

"The family humbly requests everyone who is publishing speculations on any publishing platforms including social media, to take down with immediate effect such posts and to refrain from publishing further speculations in order to allow the SAPs to conduct its investigations.

"Thank you and we hope the public will respect the family and investigation process.
