According to information, Jennifer Ugadu's body was found in her apartment on Sunday 11, July, 2021, days after she had been raped, shot and stabbed multiple times by her soldier boyfriend. Her body was said to have been decomposing when the police operatives and medical personnel entered her apartment.
Jay Matol, was reportedly said to have raped, shot Jennifer in her back, stabbed her severally in her stomach area. After killing her, he dumped her body on her bed in her apartment.
He cut Jennifer's thumb finger so that he could use it to open her phone. After gaining access to her phone, he informed her course mates on their WhatsApp group chat that he had killed Jennifer.
He also dropped a message stating his plan to commit suicide to be with murdered Jennifer forever. According to Jay on the WhatsApp group chat, he said that he would have committed suicide in June, when he newly found out Jennifer was cheating on him; but he didn't because people would have mocked him for killing himself over a lady.
Jay Matol and Jennifer Ugadu had dated each other for five years and Jay's current profile photo is that of Jennifer's. According to the police operatives, the bullets found from Jennifer's body and apartment were foreign bullets and not local.
Jennifer was a 200-level student of Science Education at Niger Delta University (NdU) in Bayelsa, Nigeria.

A female student identified as Ugadu Jennifer in Niger Delta university (NDU) Bayelsa state was shot and stapped multiple times in her apartment by her boyfriend who is a soldier.
"After shooting her and stabbing her multiple times he placed her dead body on the bed and locked her inside and ran away with her phone.
He severed her thumb to log in to her phone.
He went to her departmental group chat on WhatsApp to announce why he killed her
"He said they’ve been dating for 5 years and that he almost committed suicide because of her in June but now he decided to kill her and then kill himself so that he can be with her.
Since the incident the soldier who killed Jenniifer has been with her phone sending messages."
Taking to his Facebook page, Jay Jackson, a friend to Jennifer paid tribute to her. He wrote:
"Tribute to Jennifer Ugadu
With tears in my eyes I type.
While I am typing, ion even know what I am typing. Jenny with the smile. U informed me of ur upcoming modelling events. U didn't inform me u were leaving so soon. I guess u weren't aware too. Are u really dead, under those horrible circumstances. u struggled with those stabs and bullets u received. u were a strong personality.
Ur killer won't find peace in this life and beyond.
