Former President, Obasanjo To Celebrate World Diabetes Day In Grand Style

Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo will on 14th November, 2021 celebrate the world Diabetes Day in Ogun State. (Read More Here).

Kossyderrickent recalls that Obasanjo had revealed that he has been living and managing diabetes for the past 35 years.

According to him, "I have been diagnosed with diabetes for more than 35 years now and here I am, I’m still going about, I’m still jumping up and down, I’m still doing many things many people of my age cannot do". 

During the event which has been scheduled to hold at Olusegun Obsanjo Presidential library Complex, Ogun State, the former President will share his experience and how he has been managing the illness for over 35 years. 

According to report, the number of people living with diabetes rose from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014. 

There are lots of juicy plans schedule for the day, some of the programs are; Charity Novelty Match between the OBJ All-Stars VS Nigeria Ex-International Footballers at 
the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State , A free screening for Diabetes mellitus and some other chronic diseases at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State, to mention a few.

Some of the dignitaries expected to grace the event include: Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR (Chief Host), Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, Ogun State Governor (Co-Host), The CAF President,State Governors,NFF President and his Team, Nigeria Current and Ex-International Footballers,Business Moguls, Captain of Industries and CEOs,Many other dignitaries and “Obj fans and well-wishers.”

Meanwhile, prevalence has been rising more rapidly in low- and middle-income countries than in high income countries.

Diabetes is a major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke and lower limb 
amputation.

Between 2000 and 2016, there was a 5% increase in premature mortality from diabetes, In 2019, an estimated 1.5 million deaths were directly caused by diabetes. Another 2.2 million deaths were attributable to high blood glucose in 2012 and lots more.
