IGBO HISTORY: Ms Nnete Okorie-Egbe of Akwete.

She was the fearless leader of the Aba women riot in 1929, protesting unfair taxation of women. (Read More Here).

Nnete was imprisoned by the British Colonial Administration for two years in Port Harcourt.

She was later released to a hero's welcome and the British Colonial Administration backed down and reversed itself, by abolishing the taxation on women.

She died at the age of 102 years.
