VIDEO: UDA nominations materials burnt in Embu County as rigging allegations emerged hours before the primaries

Rowdy youths in Embu have ransacked a lorry transporting election materials belonging to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and burnt ballot boxes. The materials were being transported in readiness for the party nominations on Thursday. The incident happened near Kangaru Boys High School. (Read More Here).

UDA elections board chairman Anthony Mwaura said the party was carrying out investigations to establish how the lorry was ambushed by unknown people.

“I can confirm that those were indeed our materials. They were mainly ballot boxes and we are carrying out thorough investigations to establish who were involved,” Mr Mwaura told the Nation by phone.

"Further, be informed that if the accusations against you as hereinabove specified are proved at the hearing, the consequences thereof are grave and include disqualification from participating in the Nomination Process, suspension or even expulsion from the Party.

"In accordance with Article 29.1 you may represent yourself in person or you may bring along another member of the Party to represent you provided that such representative is a UDA Party Member or an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya," added the statement.

In summon letters dated Wednesday, April 13, the three are accused of taking part in the 'wilful arson' as well as the incitement of the public against the party primaries that are currently underway.

The party - in the summons - argues that it had video footage showing the three participating in the criminal act.

The three, Norman Nyaga, Margaret Lorna Kariuki (Nominated Member of County Assembly) and John Muchiri (Manyatta MP), are supposed to appear before the UDA Disciplinary Committee.
