VIDEO: One arrested after fire burns kiosks at National Theatre in Kampala, Uganda

Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that a yet-to-be identified man has been arrested after fire burnt down the National Theatre in Kampala, Uganda. (Read More Here).

Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson said a welder identified as Vincent Sanjo was arrested and detained at Kampala Central Police station on allegations of having caused the fires.

Sanjo is said to have been welding at one of the kiosks when the fire started with what some eyewitnesses said, sparks from the welding machine. 
“Property worth millions of shillings has been destroyed in a fire that broke out at the National Theatre. The fire started as a result of welding form one of the kiosks and before it could spread, the police fire department put it off,” Mr Owoyesgyire said.

Police have stopped a fire at the National Theatre that destroyed two kiosks, with the owner losing property valued in millions of shillings. No one was injured in the blaze. The police are holding a man who was welding a door on one of the shops, whose actions are suspected to have caused the fire. The affected kiosks were dealing in general merchandise, including clothing and shoes.

National Theatre:

"Mr. Okello-Kelo Sam, UNCC Chairperson Board of Trustees with Ragga Dee at the venue of the fire outbreak.Last evening fire gutted one of the kiosks located in the parking lot of National theatre. We would like to emphasize that National Theatre building is safe and intact. 

"We would like to inform the public that fire gutted down one of the kiosks in our carpark this morning BUT the National Theatre building was not affected, it's intact and safe. Preliminary investigations revealed that fire was caused by a welder who was doing some repairs."
