Taking to social media, his foundation announced that Thabo is celebrating his 80th birthday today.
On this day 16 June 1999, President Thabo Mbeki was inaugurated at Union Buildings. He became the second Black president of the Republic of South Africa.
Thabo Mbeki foundation: "Please join us as we wish our Patron, President Thabo Mbeki a happy 80th birthday. We are grateful for the years he has dedicated towards our country and continent at large! #TM80."
UNISA has celebrated the former President on his birthday today. UNISA wrote: "Today, the people of South Africa join former President Thabo Mbeki as he celebrates his 80th Birthday. We, at Unisa, are truly blessed to have him as our Chancellor. Happy 80th birthday Chancellor!"
