Copperbelt Province police commanding officer Sharon Zulu said on Wednesday last week, around 19:00 hours, Gift Kaunda saw his wife going to the market and requested her to return home, but she refused.
Mrs Zulu said in a statement yesterday that the resistance by his wife angered Kaunda and a fight ensued between the couple.
She said Kaunda intended to hit his wife with a fist but he missed and hit the child, who was strapped on her mother’s back.
“Both parents did not report the matter to police and neither was the child taken to the clinic until on Friday, around 16:00 hours, when the child started bleeding from the mouth.
“She was taken to the clinic in Kawama Township, where she was referred to Roan General Hospital but she died on the way
