Taking to social media, popular Tanzanian journalist confirms the death of Augustino Mrema.
The journalist wrote: "Mwenyekiti wa chama cha TLP, Augustino Lyatonga Mrema (77) amefariki dunia leo Jumapili, Agost 21, 2022, saa 12.15 asubuhi, katika Hospitali ya Taifa ya Muhimbili (MNH) jijini Dar es Salaam.
"Mrema aliyewahi kuwa Waziri wa Mambo ya Ndani, alizaliwa Desemba 31, 1944, Vunjo mkoani Kilimanjaro.
"Msemaji wa MNH, Aminieli Eligaisha amesema, Mrema alilazwa hospitalini hapo kuanzia Agosti 16,2022 na kufikwa na mauti asubuhi ya leo

BIOGRAPHY of Augustino Mrema:
During his long political career Mrema once served as Tanzania's Minister for Home Affairs and contested for presidency in 1995.
The late Augustino Mrema battled for presidency in 1995 against the late Benjamin Mkapa in the first multiparty general elections in Tanzania after the lifting of the ban on political parties in 1992.
