Three year boy has passed away after accidentally shooting himself with a firearm he found in an unlocked case.

According local authorities a three year boy has passed away after accidentally shooting himself with a firearm he found in an unlocked case.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday in Gainesville. Police say, the child was playing the gun when it suddenly went off and struck him. 

The three year old boy who has not been identified was reportedly rushed to the hospital and later died from his injuries. Gainesville police announced that two other kids were also at the home when the shooting happened, but was not hurt.

Detective Squad Sgt. John Pandak spoke with WGFL and said an adult was also there, but it was not the child’s parent. The boys parent wasn’t home during that time. 

“The fact that he got a hold of it obviously meant it was in an area that shouldn’t have been,” Pandak said. “However, you know, how it got there and why it was there was still being determined.”
