"I need to work with my former enemies to do this...If need be, I am ready to make the first move," the former PM said.
"People can say that I am shameless...that I am now forced to lick my own spit. This does not affect me. The most important thing is we must stop those who have destroyed the country from returning to power," Mahathir said in a Facebook post today.
Mahathir said many brought up the issue of him seeking out Anwar to the extend that he drove all the way to the courts to meet him before GE14.
"This is true...arrogance, ego, self interest have no place when we are fighting for race, religion and homeland," he added.
"When I met him then, the first thing on my mind was how to stop Najib (Razak) and his then-Umno govt from remaining in power. At that time, the world knew he was plundering billions from the country. And if he was not toppled the betrayal would have continued," Mahathir said.
The former Langkawi MP and Pejuang chairman says if the opposition does not remain united, Najib and his friends will continue to remain in power.
"Najib's fall indicates that we did something that made us successful," Mahathir said.
