A Chicago mural celebrating Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and his roots in the city has been painted over as the artist continues to face backlash over his recent antisemitic comments.
Video shared on social media appeared to show the West Loop mural being painted over with black paint.
"Very crazy I’m witnessing this right now.. they’re painting over the Kanye mural in Chicago," the Twitter user who posted the video wrote.
Later footage captured by NBC Chicago showed the final product, with Ye's image transformed into a silhouette.
In addition to the Chicago mural being covered, the Wieners Circle, a local eatery famed for its mean customer service, made clear Ye was not welcome at the establishment.
“Chicago has officially dropped Kanye as a spokesperson,” the eatery said, sharing a photo of its marquee, updated with a crude message for Ye.
It comes as the performer has faced severe backlash, including losing major business partnerships, over his antisemitic comments.
A video posted to Twitter Wednesday shows someone using black paint to cover the 14-foot depiction of the rapper, now known as Ye, on the side of a building in the city’s West Loop neighborhood.
The artist behind the work, Jason M. Peterson, later posted an image of the blacked-out mural to his Instagram Story, saying “We need better role models.”
The removal of the mural is the latest blow to West, 45, who grew up in Chicago after moving there with his late mother, Donda, as a child.
West and ex-wife Kim Kardashian, 42, also named their third child and second daughter after the Windy City. The rapper-cum-sneaker mogul has lost a number of corporate partnerships this week in the wake of his anti-Semitic Twitter tirade earlier this month.
Most notably, Adidas terminated the lucrative Yeezy brand collaboration, resulting in West losing his billionaire status. West retaliated by taunting the brand on social media, apparently unbothered by his apparent fall from grace.
News of the mural’s re-coating comes shortly after sources close to West divulged his “obsession” with Adolf Hitler, confirming that he even tried to title his 2018 album after the infamous world leader.
