When primary school pupils in Umlazi, south of Durban, KZN returned home last week, the little boys’ parents were appalled to find that their sons had been circumcised without their consent.
One of the Grade 7 pupils Inkongozelo Primary School has been hospitalised following the operation.
The circumcised children were all between the ages of 10 to 12 years, ages at which it is illegal to circumcise boys without a legitimate medical or religious reason.
Thandeka, the mother of the child who was hospitalised on Saturday, said that the wound inflicted on the child, who is 12 years old, is not showing any signs of recovery.
Other pupils are struggling to walk properly, according to some parents – who now want heads to roll.
