VIDEO FOOTAGE: Murder in Delhi, woman, Poonam Das, and her son, Deepak Das, cut man and husband's, Anjan Das, body into pieces in Pandav Nagar

Another chilling murder in Delhi, woman, son cut man's body into pieces in Pandav Nagar.

This is eerily similar to the manner in which 28-year-old Aaftab Poonawala allegedly killed live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and threw away pieces of her body

As the horror over Shraddha Walkar's brutal murder continues to hang heavy over Delhi, police have cracked a similar crime in the eastern part of the city.
Delhi Police crime branch have arrested a woman in east Delhi's Pandav Nagar for allegedly murdering her husband with the help of her son from a previous marriage. In eerie similarities with the Shraddha Walkar murder case, the body was chopped up into 10 pieces; these pieces were stored in a fridge and disposed of over several days.

The woman and her son have confessed to the grisly crime, police said. The woman Poonam, they said, was furious after she learnt that her husband Anjan Das had sold her jewellery and sent the money to his first wife, who lived in Bihar with their eight children.

The accused have told police that they murdered Das in June. They first spiked his drink and killed him once he was unconscious, police said. The duo then allegedly chopped up the body and disposed of the pieces. Police said they have recovered six pieces of the body so far.

The execution of the crime is disturbingly similar to the manner in which 28-year-old Aaftab Poonawala allegedly strangled his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, chopped up her body into 35 pieces and then threw them in south Delhi's Mehrauli forest.

Police first found the body parts near Pandav Nagar in June and a case of murder was registered. The investigation, however, did not progress as the pieces of the body had decomposed. When the ghastly details of the Shraddha Walkar murder case started coming to the fore earlier this month, it was also probed if the unidentified body parts were hers. But it was later found that these pieces belonged to a male body.

During their investigation, the crime branch scanned the footage from CCTV cameras in the area where the body parts were found. The footage showed that the woman and the son visited the area on several nights. In the footage, Deepak was seen carrying a bag as Poonam follows him.

Poonam Das and her son, Deepak Das, were arrested by Delhi Police Monday for the heinous murder of her husband, Anjan Das. In a chilling reminder of the Shraddha Walkar murder case that has made national headlines, the mother-son duo chopped up Das' body into 10 pieces and stored them in a refrigerator while they disposed off the corpse - part by part - at various places across the eastern parts of the national capital.

Poonam Das is the wife of the man she murdered - Anjan Das - her second husband. Deepak Das is Poonam's son from her first husband - Kallu - who died in 2016. The two have confessed to their crimes, police said.

-The police said that Poonam was furious after she learnt that her husband had sold her jewellery and sent the money to his first wife, who lived in Bihar with their eight children.

-Police further said Das was unemployed and had fought with the two accused over money; they told police he insisted on taking their earnings because he had none of his own.

Ravindra Yadav, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police's Crime Branch, said Das deceased also had 'bad intentions' towards both his stepdaughter and the wife of his stepson, Deepak.

-Poonam and Deepak Das are believed to have fed Anjan Das with liquor laced with sleeping pills on May 30, Amit Goel, Delhi Police's Deputy Commissioner (Crime), said. After this they slit his throat and left the body at home for a day while the blood drained.

-Goel said they then cut the body into 10 parts and dumped them in various locations across Delhi. Six were found; some were in a bag at the Ramlila ground in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri.

-Police said the first parts were found on June 5, after which several more - two legs and two thighs, a skull, and a forearm - were recovered over the next three days. A case was then filed.

The Delhi crime branch has revealed several horrific details in the Anjan Das murder case. Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police crime branch arrested a woman in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar for allegedly murdering her husband with the help of her son from a previous marriage. In eerie similarities with the Shraddha Walkar grisly murder, Das’ body was chopped up into 10 pieces by his wife and stepson, who then stored the dismembered body pieces in a fridge and disposed of them over several days.

Giving details of the horrific crime, Special CP Crime, Delhi, Ravinder Yadav said that Anjan Das was killed sometime before June 5 when a few of his mutilated body parts were found stuffed inside a bag at the Ramlila Ground in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri.

Over the next few days, his legs, thighs, skull and forearm were recovered following which a case was registered under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence and giving false information) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Pandav Nagar Police Station.

Yadav further said that the accused had confessed to the crime. The accused Poonam, he said, was furious after she learnt that her husband Anjan Das had sold her jewellery and sent the money to his first wife, who lived in Bihar with their eight children. The Special CP Crime, Delhi further informed that the accused revealed that Anjan Das had ill intentions towards his stepdaughter and stepson’s wife, which is why they hatched the plan to kill him.

Poonam’s former husband died of cancer in 2017, after which she started living with Das. Deepak has told police that he agreed to the plan because Das allegedly harassed his wife.

The accused have told police that they murdered Das in June. They first spiked his drink and killed him once he was unconscious, police said. The duo then left the dead body in the house for an entire night so that the blood flowing out of the body to dry up. The next day, Deepak allegedly chopped up the body and packed the mutilated body parts in polythene packets which he stored in a fridge.

The duo subsequently disposed of the pieces, but a horrible odour began to emanate from the residence. To cover it up, the accused had their house painted, but residents complained to the police about the odour, prompting the police to initiate an investigation.

Following the recovery of body parts in June, police investigated the neighbourhood using CCTV footage and conducted door-to-door verification. The body was later recognised as that of Das’, leading investigators to Poonam and Deepak. Police grew suspicious of the two after discovering that Anjan Das had been missing for about six months, but the mother-son duo had not filed a missing person report for Das. Besides, there were anomalies in their statements when questioned.

Prime accused Poonam told the media that her husband - Anjan Das - used to harass his stepdaughter and stepson's wife. The woman, however, claimed that she wasn't involved in the murder and it was her son Deepak who killed Das.

Amit Goel, DCP Crime, told the media that Anjan Das, who was already married and had eight children in Bihar, was living with Poonam in east Delhi's Pandav Nagar area. She had married Anjan after her husband Kallu died in 2016. Deepak was Kallu's son.

Anjan worked as lift operator but was out of job which resulted in frequent fights between him and Poonam. According to the police, he was murdered on May 31. The body parts were dumped into a drain in east Delhi on May 31 and June 1. The police is also in possession of CCTV footage of Deepak, carrying a bag allegedly containing Anjan's body parts, and Poonam walking along with him.
