The Government of Gambia gave MPs a pay increase, and she rejected it saying it is dishonourable to take it when it is being funded by the poorest of the poor people of Gambia.

Taking to social media, popular Nigerian Twitter user, Adeola, shared the moment of Honourable Touma Njie was speaking at the Parliament to her MPs.

Adeola wrote: "Nigeria needs politicians like this Gambian woman, Hon. Touma Njie. She's my hero!👏🇬🇲."

Another African woman wrote:  "I pray that God Almighty will bless this woman perpetually and forever for her courage, her Concience and her Nationalism. May she survive to become the president of Gambia in future and May she remain protected from the wickedness of the wicked."
