VIDEO: Two Black radio hosts have decided to aquire the trademark to “White Lives Matter”

Two Black radio hosts have decided to aquire the trademark to “White Lives Matter” — a move to block Kanye West from selling t-shirts with the controversial slogan on it and also so it wouldn’t fall into the wrong hands of someone wanting to make a profit off of hate speech.

As we previously reported last month, Kanye wore the shirt with the phrase during his Paris Fashion Week show alongside commentator Candace Owens. Since then, Kanye has made a string of wild comments including false claims about George Floyd. He said that Floyd died of fentanyl rather than police brutality. In addition to that, he also called the Black Lives Matter movement a fraud and even made anti-semitic remarks and tweets. Following a big wave of backlash, he later announced that he would be selling his shirts to the public.

Up until now, Kanye hasn’t made any major moves with his shirts and that’s possibly because he legally can’t… thanks to Quinton Ward and Ramses Ja, hosts of “Civic Cipher.” The two men were given the legal trademark from a listener who had initially secured it. Ward and Ja accpeted and were handed over the rights to the phrase on 28 October. The men explained why it was important for them to take on this responsibility: “This person who first procured it didn’t really love owning it, because the purpose was not necessarily to get rich off of it,” Ja told Black-led nonprofit news outlet Capital B News. “The purpose was to make sure that other people didn’t get rich off of that pain.”
