According to information, Babes Wodumo and Son Sponge rocked White outfits to the funeral service of Mandla Maphumulo Mampintsha to a church.

Mourners gathered at the International Convention Centre in Durban on Friday to pay tribute to musician Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo.

The 40-year-old died in a Durban hospital at the weekend.

He was admitted to King Edward Hospital for treatment after suffering a minor stroke. He was then transferred to Durdoc Hospital.

The service will be attended by close friends and family of the star and will be streamed online. The KwaZulu-Natal premier's office on Wednesday said it would work with the eThekwini municipality to provide support to the family for the burial.

While the gesture was applauded by many, others, including radio star Hulisani Ravele, questioned why the government was spending money on citizens' funerals.

The funeral follows a memorial service for Mampintsha on Thursday at the eThekwini Community Church.

Speaking at the memorial, Mampintsha's father said he was heartbroken and still coming to terms with his son's death.

DJ Tira said Mampintsha's legacy would live on.

“I didn't think in my life I would see his picture like this. Even now my heart is still broken but the one thing that would make us go forward is the love you give us.

“I'm glad this house [church] is filled like this because it means the love you have for Mampintsha, Big Nuz, Afrotainment and West Ink is big. There is still a lot of work to be done. Our sister Babes Wodumo must go back to her place at the top.

“Mampintsha was very talented and creative. Everything that was his, you could not compare it to anyone. How many groups in South Africa or across the world vanished for 10 years and when they came back they went to the top? Big Nuz was quiet and came back, and now they have what I think is the biggest song in the country and it's because of Mampintsha and Danger's creativity.

“The person Mampintsha was this year was the same man I met in 2016 when we decided to form the group.”

The Wololo hitmaker’s fans were worried about her after the news broke out that Mampintsha had succumbed to a stroke following a short stay in the hospital last week. They have been keeping her in their prayers, and many are relieved to see that she is doing well and trying to remain strong, despite losing the love of her life.

Babes Wodumo was in a jovial mood this morning when Big Nuz’s smash hit Ngeke, played at the late gqom star’s memorial service. Mampintsha’s memorial service was held at Bishop Vusi Dube’s eThekwini Community Church in the Durban CBD on Thursday, 29 December 2022.

Babs and Mampintsha were arguably Mzansi’s favorite power couple in the limelight. Despite their public scandals, their love and how they constantly hyped each other won the hearts of many people. As Ngeke played, Babes decided to celebrate her husband’s life despite the controversy surrounding her and her in-laws. The singer stood up and danced with her baby Sponge Wodumo. She sang along to the song as the crowd gathered around her.

The Wololo hitmaker has been praised by her fans for being strong and some pointed out that Mampintsha would have also done the same thing.

“That’s how they were, it was their life, what they knew. Celebrate your husband sis, send him off the best way you know how.” wrote Shlobile MaKhumalo Lebyane.

“I applaud Babes shame she is trying to be strong, this is extremely tough. I do not imagine myself here” wrote Nomonde Gumede

“There would be no any other day for Babes to celebrate his husband like that, she doesn’t need to hold herself. No one prepares u for Widowlands sisodwa namhlanje n no one will really understand how this feels until u r there! Be strong cc I won’t say kuzolunga but day by day all will make sense” wrote Cynthia MaNgcobo Oliphant.

Mampintsha’s funeral service is expected to take place on Friday 30 December at the Durban International Convention Center (ICC).
