A 14-year-old girl was found with self-inflicted knife wounds at Senator Ted Cruz's home.
Police were seen outside of Cruz's River Oaks home in Houston, Texas, around 8pm on Tuesday after the girl was discovered with wounds on her arms.
'This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is okay. There were no serious injuries. The family requests that the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time,' the statement said.
Houston Police Department also said there was 'no criminal activity' and it was 'not a family violence issue.'
The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment and there was no serious injuries.
Cruz has two daughters Catherine, 11, and Caroline, 14. It is unclear if Caroline was the person injured.
The senator is currently in Washington DC and it is unknown if he will travel home following the incident, KHOU-11 reported.
In January, his daughter Caroline, then 13, came out as bisexual and said she disagreed with much of her father's politics.
The teen said people are quick to judge her over her Republican dad's politics, despite the fact that she often opposes his conservative views.
'A lot of people judge me based upon him at first glance,' she said in a TikTok. 'But I really disagree with most of his views.'
She also revealed the perks and downsides of having a parent in the public eye, calling out their media team for editing the length of her shirt on the family Christmas card.
Caroline's TikTok account went private after her video blew up, but not before social media users took screengrabs of her bio, in which she listed her pronouns as she/her and indicated that she identified as bisexual.
When another user questioned about her sexuality and whether Cruz was aware of it, Caroline replied: 'I haven't told him yet, I'm kinda nervous to tbh but I don't think he would be mad about it.'
Police responded to Cruz's home in the upscale River Oaks neighborhood of Houston, Texas on Tuesday evening.
Houston police told KTRK that they responded to reports of a 14-year-old with self-inflicted wounds, but did not confirm whether the teenager was a member of Cruz's family.
The teen has been taken to the hospital and her condition is unknown.
A representative for Cruz's office confirmed that his daughter is "OK" and suffered "no serious injuries."
Cruz's office and HPD did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun's requests for comment.
His daughter, Caroline, 14, had taken to TikTok earlier this year to share some of the pros and cons of having a father as a senator.
She received a series of questions regarding what it was like to be the Republican politician's daughter and discussed her family life.
But in the post shared in early January 2022, she ran through a list of "bad things" explaining why being the senator's daughter is difficult.
"I literally have to have security following me everywhere," she said.
"Like if I want to go on a walk through the neighborhood or to my friend's house or something, I have to have like two security guards behind me the entire time."
Caroline even claimed her father's media team photoshopped her outfit in a photo for the Cruz family Christmas card to demonstrate Cruz's conservative views.
She shared the snap of the group photo where she appears to be wearing a waist-length knitted shirt, before sharing an image of her in a crop top with an identical design.
Caroline said "On the Christmas card, they literally made my shirt longer."
Her social media accounts have since been made private.
