Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Wildlife Experts Raise Alarm After A Chimpanzee Was Caught, K!lled, Slaught£red To Make Pepper Soup In Bayelsa Community.

Few days Ago, a hunter shot and killed 2 chimpanzees in Nembe, Bayelsa State, but its not right.

The chimpanzee were killed in the Edumanom Forest reserve, a fresh water swamp forest located around Nembe/Ogbia LGA in Bayelsa.

This place is home to some of the last chimpanzees in Nigeria

In the past, hunters use to beat their chest for killing one but excessive hunting has driven these chimpanzees to almost extinction, there are less than 70 individuals alive in that forest.

The forest was designated as Forest Reserve at National level in 1975, there are suppose to be laws prohibiting the killing of such endangered sub-species.

The Bayelsa State Government should carry out massive awareness campaign to educated the locals why they should stop killing endangered sub-species.
