The SIU report calls for lifestyle audits to be conducted on all officials working under the licensing department across the country.

The SIU report found fraudulent optometrist certificates & manipulation of licensing processes.

SIU also uncovered collusion between applicants, driving schools, examiners, and other officials at licensing departments, which ranged from queue manipulation – where applicants are -able to jump the queue through driving schools – to more serious forms of corruption.

the report highlighted flaws within the province’s licensing regime, which has given impetus for a complete overhaul of the system.

The SIU's investigation findings into fraud and corruption at traffic departments has led to the introduction of new number plates for vehicles across Gauteng in 2023 in order to curb hijackings, kidnappings and robberies that happen through motor vehicle used as getaways.
