Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that police in TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA, surround white van in which Asian suspect, shooter and gunman, is in while trying to escape after kiIling people during Chinese Lunar New year celebrations in Monterey Park.

Information reads: "POLICE IN TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA, HAVE SURROUNDED A WHITE VAN IN A PARKING LOT.
THEY BELIEVE THE SUSPECT OF THE MASS SHOOTING IN MONTEREY PARK IS INSIDE THE VEHICLE."

Law enforcement officers have surrounded a white van in a shopping center parking lot in Torrance, roughly 25 minutes from the Monterey Park shooting scene. Authorities have not confirmed the van is connected to the shooting.

A gunman killed 10 people and wounded 10 others inside a Monterey Park, California, ballroom dance club following a Lunar New Year celebration, setting off a manhunt for the suspect.

The shooting occurred around 10:20 p.m. Saturday at the Star Dance Studio, located at 122 W. Garvey Avenue. Monterey Park is located several miles east of downtown Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley.

Ten people, five women and five men, were pronounced dead at the scene, Sheriff Robert Luna said at a news conference Sunday morning. The wounded were taken to hospitals with conditions ranging from stable to critical.

At least 10 people were killed and at least 10 more injured in a mass shooting in Monterey Park, Calif., late Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

“Investigators are working every lead on this case,” Capt. Andrew Meyer from the department’s homicide division said at a news conference early Sunday, adding that they were reviewing CCTV footage from near the scene at a ballroom dance club.

“We have 10 that are deceased at the scene,” he said, adding that he believed at least 10 people had been taken to hospital with “critical to stable injuries.”

Meyer said the male suspect fled the scene and remains at large. More information about the suspect would be provided once it became available, he said.

He did not say why investigators gave no information on the incident for hours while the shooter remained on the run.

“As far as the suspect knowing any of the victims, it’s too early the investigation to know that,” he said, adding that it was also too early to know what the motive is.

He said police were investigating another incident in the nearby city of Alhambra to see whether it was connected.

The shooting came after thousands of people had gathered for a Lunar New Year Festival in the small city around 10 miles east of Los Angeles of about 60,000 people with a large Asian population.

The two-day event features “food booths with various types of delectable items, amusement rides, and lots of live entertainment,” according to the city’s website.

Meyer said that police “will look at every angle as far as whether it was a hate crime or not,” but added that it was too early in the investigation to know whether the incident was racially motivated.

The event was canceled Sunday out of respect for the victims, Chief Scott Wiese of the Monterey Park Police Department, told the news conference.

Simu Liu, who portrays the warrior Shang-Chi in Marvel’s first Asian superhero movie, tweeted that he was “shocked and saddened” by the incident.

“It’s home of Asian American families, parents, grandparents, siblings, sons and daughters, aunts and uncles. All of whom were looking forward to celebrating the New Year this weekend,” he said.

The latest violence comes two months after five people were killed at a Colorado Springs nightclub.

"The investigators are working every lead on this case. We are reviewing all surveillance video and following all leads. We are not going to leave anything unturned," Meyer added.

Alhambra's Mayor, Sasha Renée Pérez, shared a statement via Twitter, indicating·

"To have this tragedy occur on Lunar New Year weekend, makes this especially painful. Monterey Park is home to one of the largest #AAPI communities in the country. This is a time when residents should be celebrating with family, friends and loved ones - not fearing gun violence," Pérez said.

The second possible scene was located at the Lai Lai Ballroom and Studio on 120 block of South Garfield Avenue though it remains unclear whether the two scenes were connected.

According to early reports, officials were searching to see whether the suspect had gone to that ballroom, which was approximately two miles away from the mass shooting in Monterey Park. The Los Angeles suburb had been hosting the Monterey Park Lunar New Year Festival this weekend, marking the beginning of the Chinese lunar calendar.

"The President has been briefed by the Homeland Security Advisor on the mass shooting in Monterey Park. He directed her to make sure that the FBI is providing full support to local authorities, and to update him regularly today as more details are known," the White House press secretary said in a Twitter post.

The Sheriff's Department said the shooting began at about 10:22 p.m. on West Garvey Avenue, near the downtown blocks where the festival was being held.
