Latto receives backlash after it was discovered that her latest single “Lottery” featuring LU KALA was produced by Dr. Luke

Latto receives backlash after it was discovered that her latest single “Lottery” featuring LU KALA was produced by Dr. Luke.

Her newest and biggest project is "Lottery," a feel-good '70s-inspired bad bitch anthem featuring LU KALA, one of the most notable up-and-coming names in pop music right now. The bop dropped at midnight, but if you haven't heard it yet, don't worry—it'll likely take over your FYP very soon.

Still basking in the aftermath of her first ever Grammy Awards, where she was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Melodic Rap Performance for "Big Energy (Live)," Latto sat down with Cosmopolitan to talk about the new song and accompanying visuals—which she gave Cosmo a very first look at before the music video drops at noon—what the vibe was like on set, the advice she got from Taylor Swift at the Grammys, and how she uses humor to clap back at internet trolls (ahem, looking at you, "panty police").

You mentioned a "broader mind." What does that look like for you?
A lot of second guessing. A lot of fixes, going back in and recutting things, and just making it perfect. Really analyzing the song piece-by-piece, even down to the ad-libs. Like, at the very end of the song—mind you, this was so recent—but a couple of days before we turned the song in, I went back and was like, 'Naw, it needs some personality at the end.' So I just added that little talking point at the end of the song maybe like two weeks ago. That type of stuff.

It was really dope to see this collab be with LU KALA. How did this partnership happen?
Yeah, I love LU KALA. So, actually, I heard the song with her hook and it was just empty verses, and I was like, 'Hold on now, hold on now, let me see what I could do on this.' As soon as I heard it I was like, 'Yeah, I'm jumping on this.' I already loved what she did, and then I mean "Lottery," "hit the lotto," like, I had to. So, I jumped on it, did the verses, and I was kind of nervous, like, 'I hope she likes it.' And she came back and was like, 'Nah, bitch, I love it!' She was like, 'I didn't even hear any rapper on it, but I love what you did,' and we went from there. It really was just a match made in heaven, to be honest.

Latto is following up her first Grammy wins with a new track. “Lottery” is an upbeat dance-ready track in which the artist proclaims that her future partner is so lucky, he’s basically won the lottery.

“I need a real boss / Somebody who don’t care what the bill cost,” she raps in the intro verse. “Smooth skin, thick thighs, you can feel on / If he hit this then he hit the Mega Million.”

The single features a guest appearance from Congolese pop artist LU KALA. An official music video featuring the duo is set to premiere later this afternoon.

The 65th Annual Grammy Awards was held earlier this month. Latto won twice, cinching Best New Artist, as well as Best Melodic Rap Performance for her breakout hit song “Big Energy.”
