Sindh police have identified Kifayat Ullah and Zala Noor as the two terrorists who attacked Karachi Police office

Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Sindh police have identified Kifayat Ullah and ZalaNoor as the two terrorists who attacked Karachi Police office.

At least four people were killed and 14 were injured after militants stormed the police headquarters in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, according to officials.

Militants attacked the police station with hand grenades and shots were fired, an eyewitness told CNN. Pakistan's Taliban, known as Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack, according to spokesman Mohammad Khorasani.

Two policemen, two rangers and one civilian were killed in the attack, according to Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui, a senior leader of the Pakistan People's Party, the ruling party in Sindh province where Karachi is located.

Of the 14 injured, one is in critical condition, he added.

The siege was brought to an end on Friday, and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah later said the three militants responsible for the attack were killed.

"Three attackers were behind the attack on the Karachi Police office. All three are now dead. The police force, rangers and army helped in resolving this situation. I commend them for their bravery," he said in a video statement.

Gunfire and explosions were heard on Friday outside the premises, which is home to several police buildings and officer residences.

Three members of the security forces and a civilian were killed and several other security force members were wounded, said government officials and Ghulam Nabi Memon, police chief for Sindh province, where Karachi is the capital.

Two suicide bombers were killed and at least one blew himself up after entering the police building, officials added.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Murtaza Wahab, a government adviser, confirmed that police and paramilitary forces in a joint operation had cleared the police building within three hours of the attack late Friday.

“I confirm that the operation against the terrorists is over,” said Wahab. President Arif Alvi condemned the assault in Pakistan’s chief commercial city and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid tributes to security forces for the successful operation.

When the attack began, a huge explosion was heard inside the station after a series of smaller blasts. “KPO is not a soft target,” said Sharufddin Memon, former chief of the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and consultant to the Sindh home department.

“This is a kind of message from the terrorists: ‘we are that close’. It’s a serious security lapse. It’s not a routine terrorist activity. It cannot be ignored. So, I think many things are needed to be revisited. From the security of our facilities to anti-terror to training of our law enforcement agencies — everything must be rechecked,” he said.

He recalled the past wave of terrorism in the country when militant outfits often went for soft targets attacking public places, markets, mosques, shrines and imambargahs but the fresh one had started with a visible shift in their line of action, so far.

“They [the militants] are showing how prepared and trained they are. If they can attack these facilities then how vulnerable our public places can be? So it’s time to devise a proper security plan and take up the challenge with full confidence,” said Mr Memon.

In an hours-long operation, police commandos and paramilitary soldiers cleared the Karachi Police Office (KPO) of terrorists, who stormed the five-storey building in the country's most populous city on Friday evening (February 17.)

A senior police official, who was part of the team leading the operation, told the Dawn newspaper that there were three attackers who arrived at the KPO in a white car. One of the attackers blew himself up on the building’s fourth floor while two others were shot dead on the roof.
