Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that In DR Congo, DC Motema Pembe Women Players chased and beat up a Referee for failing to award them a penalty, while they were losing 5-1 to TP Mazembe Women.

Players from the Congolese women’s soccer club DC Motema Pembe chased down a referee and brutally assaulted him in protest of a non-penalty call.

The women of DC Motema Pembe were losing to Mazembe women 5-1 in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The referee did not call a questionable foul inside the penalty box.

Out of anger, the players on Motemba Pember chased the official off the pitch, and once he made his way toward a shelter, they attacked him. Players began to slug him before bystanders separated the angry athletes, and shortly after, the official was rushed down a tunnel.

A few of the Motema Pembe players chased the official down the tunnel and were out of sight of the video.

According to GhanaWeb, the DR Congo Football Association suspended some players on Motema Pembe for their actions.

The violent melee comes less than a week after a crazed Columbian soccer fan brutally attacked a player on the opposing team. A similar protest happened in that match after Daniel Cataño defended himself from the attack; the referee ejected him from the game.

The players finally got ahold of the referee and started beating him while staff at the stadium tried to intervene. Meanwhile, Motema Pembe’s opponents stood on the pitch astonished as the drama unfolded.

Ex-CAF media expert Collins Okinyo posted the video on Linkedin, saying that the incident occurred during Motema Pembe’s league match against DR Congo’s TP Mazembe. Motema Pembe was losing 5-1 when the violent outburst occurred. The referee was eventually rescued from the mob and immediately sent to his dressing room. The football federation of DRC are yet to respond to the attack as social media users condemn the terrible scene.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that referees in a Cameroonian MTN Elite Two league game between Unisport FC de Bafang and Victoria United were brutally attacked before the match ended. Fans of Unisport swarmed onto the pitch after the referee awarded a 92nd minute penalty to the away team. The referees were then savagely attacked by furious supporters, forcing the match to end before the final whistle was blown.
