VIDEO: Sam Smith says they love fishing and he goes by the term 'fisherthem' on BBC One Show

Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Sam Smith says they love fishing and he goes by the term 'fisherthem'.

Sam Smith was misgendered on The One Show last night (February 15). The non-binary popstar had to correct presenter Alex Jones over their 'fisherthem' comment.

Sam, who uses the pronouns they/ them, appeared on the BBC show after their iconic Brit Awards performance. They revealed they have a secret fishing hobby and would like to become a 'fisher-them' after music.

As reported by The Mirror, presenter Alex asked whether they would like to be a fly fisherman. Sam was then forced to correct her.

One Show host Ronan Keating asked Sam: "You're a big fan of fishing?" The singer replied: "I do love fishing, yes! Yeah, I'd love to be a fisher-them."

Alex asked them: "What, like a fly fisherman?" Sam corrected her by saying: "I'd be any type of fisher-them.Sam Smith was misgendered on The One Show last night (February 15). The non-binary popstar had to correct presenter Alex Jones over their 'fisherthem' comment.

The host asked: 'What, like a fly fisherman?'

Sam Smith corrected: 'I'd be any type of fisher-them.

'I think I would like to, one day, I'd just like to end my days fishing. Like sitting on a bank.'

They added: 'I do it on the sea and I do it on lakes. I've never done it alone, someone's almost taught me.'

Many online expressed their confusion at the term used by the singer.

One Twitter user shared the video, saying: 'What fresh linguistic hell is this?'

Smith recently made headlines for their outlandish Brit awards performance which attracted over 100 Ofcom complaints.

They performed their new hit single Unholy with singer Kim Petras at London's 02 arena on Saturday.

A spokesman for Ofcom told MailOnline: 'We received 106 complaints about The Brit Awards on ITV1 on 11 February.

'The majority of complaints related to Sam Smith’s performance, with the remainder about the use of offensive language and consumption of alcohol.'

It comes just a week after Grammy viewers slammed Smith and Petras over their 'satanic' performance of Unholy.

Smith had earlier appeared on the red carpet wearing a quirky balloon-like latex outfit made by fashion designer Harri. The pop singer has gone by the pronouns they/them since 2019, but it’s not the first time the non-binary star has struggled with misgendering.

In January, Richard Madeley issued an apology to Smith on TV after using the wrong pronouns when talking about the singer.

Smith also responded to Shawn Mendes misgendering them at the iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball in 2020. Mendes used incorrect pronouns to introduce Smith before they took to the stage at the star-studded virtual event. However, Smith kindly replied to the singer’s apology on Instagram, writing: “We’re all learning together.”

Last weekend, Smith and Petras brought a leather-filled rendition of ‘Unholy’ to BRITs 2023, with both award show performances sparking some controversy.

Conspiracy theorists thought the Grammy performance was “a satanic ritual”, with the show also garnering a response from the Church Of Satan.

The pair’s BRITs performance, meanwhile, subsequently sparked over 100 Ofcom complaints, according to the broadcasting regulator.

Their Grammy win was particularly significant as it made Petras the first openly trans woman to be awarded with the accolade.

Petras accepted the mic with Smith watching on behind her, telling the audience at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena: “Sam graciously wanted me to accept this award because I’m the first transgender woman to win this award. I just want to thank all the incredible transgender legends before me who kicked these doors open for me so I could be here tonight.”
