Chipata police officer, Sergeant PATRICK MULENGA, sentenced to 3 years imprisonment with hard labour for r0bbery after snatching plastic bag of Soya Chunks

The Chipata High Court has sentenced a police officer to three years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery.

Chipata Resident Judge MERCY MAKUBALO jailed Sergeant PATRICK MULENGA after he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of robbery.

MULENGA, who was based at Chipata Central police station, was initially charged with aggravated robbery.

According to facts read by State advocate SYDNEY SIAFWA, Sergeant MULENGA threatened to kill a Chipata businesswoman GETRUDE LUO before snatching a handbag from her vehicle which contained 30,100 Kwacha and a plastic bag containing soya chunk.

Advocate SIAFWA said after the incident which occurred on April 3rd, 2021 in Eastrise area, Sergeant MULENGA went into hiding and was only arrested in Lusaka on December 12, 2021.

The State entered a nolle prosequi against NANDI JERE who was jointly charged with Sergeant MULENGA.
