VIDEO: Ezra Chiloba chased from an event by Kisumu protesters as they grab food

The protesters also grabbed food throwing the catering staff into panic as they watched in disbelief.

Those who were already in the queues fled for their lives abandoning their utensils on the floor as the rioters quenched their thirst with any refreshments on sight.

Some of the delegates at the event fled while the protesters moved to the main dais where some panel discussions were going on. Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, sources in Kisumu privy to the matter indicated that rowdy youths stormed the event, minutes after Chiloba started addressing the press.

This prompted former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO to cut short his event and dash to his vehicle. Some of the delegates at the event fled for their dear lives while the protesters moved to the main dais where some panel discussions were going on.

Mr Owalo, who was the chief guest at the event, was not present when they arrived. The CA boss was officiating a High-Level Roundtable event which marked World Consumer Rights Day at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex.

Our source also revealed that the youths stormed the catering centre and took away all the food meant for organisers and guests.

The youth were protesting the high cost of living in readiness for the Monday, March 20, mass action called by Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Armed with placards and chanting, the rowdy youth poured into the streets of Kisumu. One of the protestors rallied the crowd to prepare for the Monday, March 20, protests.

"We owe no one an apology. We have a right to picket and therefore we say, Ruto must go. On Monday, March 20, all of us are going to Nairobi and going to tell Ruto to get out of State House," he stated.

Other demonstrators bayed for the blood of ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo who was to be the event's chief guest.

Mr Ezra Chiloba, the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), had to be whisked away from the venue to escape the wrath of the angry protestors.

The protestors who were chanting “Tunataka Owalo (We want Owalo” arrived just when journalists were interviewing Mr Chiloba on the sidelines of the forum.

The protesters raided the event moments after they issued a memorandum at the County Commissioner’s office.

But some of the local leaders and fellow protestors alerted them that the CS was holding an event in Kisumu, on a day that they were protesting.

They carted away teardrop banners, which had been erected by various corporations exhibiting their products at the event.
