Bothma was known for appearing in TV adverts such as King Pie speaking in isiZulu, which got tongues wagging. The news were shared by her brother on social media.
The cause of death is yet unknown.
Marietjie has also appeared in several other adverts, TV shows and most recently, was the emcee at President Zuma’s inauguration in the Vaal over the years.
At the time, she was one of the programme directors at the event held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the South African Constitution, where President Jacob Zuma addressed residents.
Mochela, who transported the media personality to hospital, said she was struggling to come to terms with her friend's death. She recounted feeding and bathing the star before her death.
“I was the one taking care of her while she was sick, and my kids also played a very big role in taking care of their auntie. I took her to the hospital and they tried their best before she passed away in the morning.
“I never expected this so soon. I never thought things would turn out this way,” she told TshisaLIVE.
Bothma, popularly known as Intombi Yomzulu, died on Monday at Kopanong Hospital in Vereeniging after suffering a short illness. She was 40 years old.
She captured the heart of the nation when she appeared in a pie advert speaking Zulu, and featured on some of Mzansi's biggest soapies. She also spoke at former president Jacob Zuma's inauguration ceremony.
Marietjie, who has also done promos for SABC 1’s uzobheka mini ngedwa campaign and SABC 2’s Muvhango, is one of the ambassadors of the 16 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign and was also actively supporting civil society group, Life Line.
