Janelle Monáe has explained that they are comfortable in their own skin and has no regrets about baring their breasts — in fact, Monae says they are “much happier” showing them off.
The singer/actress spoke with Rolling Stone about their upcoming album, The Age Of Pleasure. During the conversation, Monáe discussed entering an era of sexual liberation and freedom.
Now, in the newest Rolling Stone cover story, she explains why. "I’m much happier when my titties are out and I can run around free," the self-described “free-ass motherfucker” said.
Later on in the feature, Monáe explains what it means to focus on pleasure as an artist. "I think being an artist gets lonely. Most people don’t understand what’s going on in my brain," they clarified. "Community has been so helpful to me; it’s beautiful that I have a title called The Age of Pleasure because it actually re-centers me. It’s not about an album anymore. I’ve changed my whole fucking lifestyle."
Now 37, Monáe has clearly made it to that stage of life where she’s done caring what uptight “motherf–kers” think about her “free-ass motherf–ker” lifestyle. And you’re damn right she’s gonna dump out the “titties.”
“I’m much happier when my titties are out, and I can run around free,” Monáe, who has an album coming out, said during her Rolling Stone interview.
Monáe also discussed the recent backlash they received for flashing their breasts at an event celebrating the release of their new single and music video, “Lipstick Lover.”
The “Tightrope” singer remains unbothered by criticism of the NSFW promotional campaign for their upcoming album, rather enjoying showing off their breasts. “I’m much happier when my titties are out and I can run around free,” Monáe told RS..
