NOT RETURNING: Journalist Daniel Richtman confirms Marvel is looking for a new director for THOR 5 as Taika Waititi will not be directing

Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Journalist Daniel Richtman confirms Marvel is looking for a new director for THOR 5 as Taika Waititi will not be directing.

"THOR 5’ is reportedly in the works.
Marvel is seemingly looking for a new director, implying that Taika Waititi will not be returning," Daniel RPK confirms.

Meanwhile, Taika Waititi is doing his own thing. He is an Oscar-winning writer-director, winning Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. Waititi has written and directed What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Next Goal Wins is Waititi's latest film. It tells the story of the American Samoa football team that attempts to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Michael Fassbender stars in the film as soccer coach Thomas Rongen. The film premiered at TIFF in September.....

However, Waititi will not return and the hunt is on for a new director to put their spin on this iconic character. This is interesting because the trades debunked reports about a fifth instalment being in the works earlier this fall; it's possible the end of the WGA strike has changed things.

Thor: Love and Thunder wrapped up by setting the stage for the title hero to clash with Hercules, but that's a story we could eventually see play out elsewhere. Daniel Richtman (Patreon subscription required) is reporting that Thor 5 is in development. However, it appears that Marvel Studios is searching for a new director, meaning Waititi could be out.

Waititi had previously helmed the last two Thor films, Ragnarok and Love and Thunder. His zany humor brought new life to one of the MCU's weakest franchises in Ragnarok. But the fourth entry received a mixed response despite bringing Natalie Portman back into the fold.

Taika Waititi drastically reinvented the hero in the colourful Thor: Ragnarok, putting a comedic spin on the Asgardian's corner of this shared world.

Lightning didn't strike twice, though, and last year's Thor: Love and Thunder was nothing if not hit-and-miss.

While not an outright failure (it was far from Marvel Studios' worst-performing movie, both critically and commercially), something about it didn't work.
