Ice hockey star Adam Johnson dies aged 29 after his throat is slashed by skate in front of a crowd of 8k. 

Adam Johnson's injury was so horrific it forced the game to be abandoned and left traumatised fans in tears as they were asked to leave due to a serious medical emergency. 

Adam was fatally injured in a freak accident at the match between Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers at Utilita Arena Sheffield yesterday evening. 

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said they were called at around 8.20pm before sending two ambulances and a critical care paramedic - with one man taken to hospital. "The Panthers would like to send our thoughts and condolences to Adam's family, his partner, and all his friends at this extremely difficult time," it said. "Adam, our number 47, was not only an outstanding ice hockey player, but also a great teammate and an incredible person with his whole life ahead of him."

The Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) confirmed that it had postponed all games on Sunday following the "deeply upsetting news."

Many of the 8,000 spectators in attendance were reportedly left traumatized by the "freak accident" at the Utilita Arena Sheffield.

One X user wrote that it was "undoubtedly the worst thing I've ever seen happen."
