Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that ICJ judge seen sleeping during South Africa vs Israel genocide court case at The Hague.

South Africa’s landmark case against Israel for its war on Gaza began on Thursday at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the World Court based in The Hague. Pretoria is accusing Israel of committing the crime of genocide in breach of the 1948 Genocide Convention.

More than 23,000 people have been killed in Gaza since October 7, according to the enclave’s health ministry. That includes nearly 10,000 children.

Adila Hassim, one of the advocates representing South Africa, said that it’s not necessary for the court to come to a final sentence on the genocide allegations now, but that it could conclude that at least some of Israel’s actions fall within the definition of the convention, and thus, intervene.

"The question remains: what will be the content of the decision? Will something similar to that issued for Russia and Ukraine to stop the fighting? Or will it relate to the entry of humanitarian aid? Or oblige Israel to fight according to the standards of international law?

"This is what we will learn in the coming days," al-Masry said. "It may take from a week to two months."

After the court decides whether or not to apply emergency measures, it will then look at the broader case "on the merits" - South Africa's charge that Israel is in breach of the UN Genocide Convention.

A ruling of the broader case "on the merits" on the other hand will probably take several years.
