Dotun Olubeko almost cried as he engaged Charity Lawson on finale of the Bachelorette.
Zach Shallcross’ season of The Bachelor. She finished fourth after being ousted on hometown dates. Charity was subsequently cast as the lead on The Bachelorette, where she met over a dozen men seeking to be her future spouse.
Charity and Dotun will now have their happily ever after, but Charity had to shatter some hearts along the way, including her own. Saying goodbye to Joey before getting engaged to Dotun was a heartbreaking moment since Charity had told him on their dream suite date that she was in love with him. In addition, she had to contend with Aaron Bryant’s return to the show in the days leading up to the proposal, despite his prior elimination during hometown dates.
Both parents watched the engagement of Dotun Olubeko and Charity Lawson on finale of the Bachelorette.
Charity’s mom, Vicky, gave an update on her end, too. “I’m happy for them. I’ve gotten to know Dotun a little bit better, so yes, I’m very happy,” she said.
They’re planning a wedding but haven’t chosen a date yet, deciding instead of “enjoy this season of life.” Charity did clear up that while she called Dotun her “future baby daddy,” they are not having a child any time soon.
“There’s no words and I’ve told this to her — love is not enough of a word to describe how I feel about her. She’s everything to me. She [has] only become more of everything since filming ended,” Dotun gushed. “I’ve never been more certain about anything in my life. I want to keep rocking and keep moving.”
Charity accepted a proposal from Dotun during Monday’s episode after sending Aaron Bryant and Joey Graziadei home. At AFR, Dotun admitted that he went into proposal day with “mixed feelings” because he didn’t know where she stood with Joey.
“To know that your life is going to change the matter with the outcome is was really heavy,” he said. “I went into it really heavy, unsure. I don’t know what other relationships are like. I don’t want to expect anything. … So [I] went into it with a serious face, game face because I really wanted this girl and luckily it worked out.”
Once at the proposal, though, Charity said her doubts were gone. “You made me feel alive. You made me believe in love again. You made me feel so valued and so seen,” she said. “I see you as my husband. I see you as my future. I see it so clear and I don’t have any doubts. I love you so much.”
The feelings are strong still. “She’s everything to me,” Dotun said, adding that he’s “never been so sure” of anything in his life.
