A tragic murder-suicide has shocked the Nazareth community in Pinetown, eThekwini, after a police officer from North West allegedly tracked down and fatally shot his wife, before turning the gun on himself. READ MORE HERE

The incident happened yesterday while the woman, identified as Melethola Mautsoa — an employee of the eThekwini Municipality — was washing dishes outside her new residence. According to those close to the couple, the woman had recently moved out and relocated to Nazareth to escape the strained marriage.

Sources claim that the officer had already paid lobola for a second wife, a decision that his first wife firmly rejected. She is said to have told him she would rather they divorce than be in a polygamous marriage.

It is believed that the officer followed her from work, confronted her briefly, and then opened fire — killing her on the spot. He then took his own life at the scene.
