Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that DCI, Funkuta Muyembi, unalived his wife, Womba Samulozela with his brother-in-law, Dr. Wana Samulozela.

According to information, Funkuta Muyembi, has killed himself as he committed suicide.

A domestic dispute turned deadly in Solwezi early this morning when a police officer allegedly shot and killed his wife and brother-in-law before taking his own life. READ MORE HERE

The tragic incident occurred around 05:30 hours . Preliminary investigations by the Police indicate that Detective Chief Inspector Funkuta Muyembi aged 46, stationed at Solwezi District Police Intelligence Office, used a government-issued firearm to commit the act.

According to the official police report, the officer signed out an AK-47 rifle from the Inquiries Office at 05:05 hours, claiming he was following up on a report in Mutanda. However, instead of proceeding on duty, he reportedly used a spare key to access the house where his wife was staying following a recent separation.

Inside, an argument is believed to have erupted. Muyembi is then alleged to have fatally shot his wife, Womba Samulozela aged 41 and her brother, Dr. Wana Samulozela aged 42 who had recently transferred to Solwezi from Lusaka and was working with the Provincial Health Office. He later turned the weapon on himself.

The incident was reported by Agnes Kalumbu sister to the deceased woman at 09:21 hours today.

Police officers responding to the scene found all three bodies in the same bedroom. Womba’s body had a gunshot wound to the left side of her ribs, with an exit wound on her back. Dr. Wana sustained a similar gunshot wound without an exit. Muyembi’s body was found partially on the bed with a gunshot wound to the right side of the neck and an exit wound at the back of the head. The rifle was found clamped to his chest, safety catch off, with one round in the chamber and two in the magazine.

The firearm used in the incident was confirmed to be a police-issued AK-47, serial number 1674, assigned to Muyembi on the morning of the incident.

According to police, the couple had been experiencing marital problems and had separated just two days earlier, on July 30, 2025. The house where the shooting took place is believed to belong to the late Mrs. Samulozela.

All three bodies have been transported to Solwezi General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

An inquiry file has been opened, and further investigations are underway.

Commissioner of Police for North Western Division Brighton Siwale has confirmed the incident in a statement.
