A South Carolina man, Joseph Oberlies, was arrested earlier this week after he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and dumped her child’s ashes in the garbage

A South Carolina man was arrested earlier this week after he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and dumped her child’s ashes in the garbage. 

Joseph Oberlies broke into the woman’s home on September 3 around 3:30 a.m. Mount Pleasant police said in a statement that his ex-girlfriend was not home at the time of the incident, adding that he was also caught on video as he entered the home. 

His ex said Oberlies broke her flat screen television with a hammer then threw an urn containing her deceased child’s ashes in the trash. Additionally, Oberlies previously showed violent tendencies during their relationship and she feared that he would kill her if she was home.

Oberlies reportedly denied breaking into the home but said he was “black-out drunk and does not remember” after police said there was video evidence. He also texted the victim and asked her not to press charges while police were at the scene.
