President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorized the SIU to thoroughly investigate a R295 million contract allegedly awarded to businessman Edwin Sodi’s company for the Rooiwal Wastewater treatment works project in the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.

This move comes amidst allegations of irregularities surrounding the contract.

Information reads: “Edwin Sodi’s lavish R85 million home was displayed in public yesterday. Today Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised SIU to investigate a R295m contract awarded to Edwin Sodi’s company for the Rooiwal Wastewater treatment works project in the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.”

Amid outrage surrounding the Hammanskraal cholera outbreak, Edwin Sodi’s R295m Rooiwal water tender has resurfaced.

Controversial businessman Edwin Sodi has been trending for all the wrong reasons… again. This time, the tender tycoon has been drawn into the Hammanskraal cholera outbreak debacle for “irregularities” around the tender awarded to him to refurbish and upgrade the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The “blame game” for the cholera outbreak — which has so far claimed the lives of 17 people — has been in full swing.

In a statement, the Department of Water and Sanitation said that it has, throughout the years, sought to institute several enforcement actions and compliance requirements against the city to improve its water quality.

The department blamed “the failure of the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Works to meet the desirable final effluent quality for discharge to the Apies River, which in turn, flows into the Leeukraal Dam”.

“The ANC is guilty, they were responsible to deal with the issue of water and they failed. What have they done? They have taken R300m to Edwin Sodi. Edwin Sodi must tell us what happened, why we don’t have progress on the project of phase 1 in Rooiwal.

“The DA administration together with Sodi have taken the money of people in Hammanskraal and now people are dying…

“The money was taken by corrupt councillors of the DA and mayors together with the service providers,” Ramabodu said.
