Fans are paying tributes as Ghanaian rapper, OJ Blaq, passed away from kidney related illness as cause of death.

News of the rapper’s death has been met with an outpouring of grief from the Ghanaian music fraternity.


“R.I.P. to the first musician to ever walk into the Lynx Studio to record his music,” the Richie Mensah-led record label, which is home to Afropop stars KiDi and Kuami Eugene, said in a statement. “You will always be remembered for your kind heart and ability to put a smile on so many faces. Condolences and best wishes to your family.” 


However, in 2016, he revealed in an interview that he almost died from a kidney-related disease; he survived double kidney failure, which he attributed to binge drinking and smoking. 


He became a born-again Christian and resurfaced on the scene as an evangelist. 


Blaq was also an actor known for his very notable role in popular Ghanaian series, Sun City.
