This is indeed an incredible news to all Igbos, especially the business minded ones. Yesterday, the Onitsha River Inland Port was reopened by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It was commissioned yesterday by Dr. George Moghalu and a few others.

After 42 years of dormancy, Federal Government reopens the Onitsha River Inland Port for operation. Now, all containers ships from China directly lands in Onitsha without going to/calling Lagos Inland Port.

President Buhari’s Special Assistant on Digital and New Media, Tope Ogunlesi explains:

“Let me Summarise it. Maersk is now (starting 2020)sending container ships direct from China to the Onne Port, without the need to first call at Lagos.

Now, when the ship berths in Onne, it will be offloaded and the containers going to Onitsha Port will be barged down.”
