Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that BJP govt in Maharashtra donated ₹10 crore to state Waqf Board.
The Konkan region secretary of the VHP Mohan Salekar said, ‘We oppose granting funds for the strengthening of the Waqf Board. Mahayuti Alliance is doing what even the Congress Government avoided doing. This is appeasement based on religion. On the one hand, the leaders of the Mahayuti Alliance are yelling that politics should not be done based on religion, while on the other hand, subsidies are being given based on religion. We will not tolerate the strengthening of radicalism in this way’.
“The allegation levelled by the VHP is serious and the government, specially deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis should take note of it. Else there will be big problem during the elections,” a party office-bearer observed. The message sent by the VHP is that it cannot be taken for granted by the BJP leadership.
The party is already upset that the government has granted permission for a Muslim graveyard not far from the ancient Shiva temple in Ambernath. There have been several agitations on this issue by Hindu outfits, but in vain. The general feeling among RSS cadres is that many BJP leaders do not take time out to meet them.
In 2007, when the Congress was in power in Maharashtra, during the tenure of the then Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, it had promised the Union Government to grant subsidy to the Waqf Board. Fulfilling this promise, a grant of ₹10 crore has been given for the year 2024-25 to strengthen the Waqf Board. Out of which, ₹2 crore has already been given by the State Government on 10th June.
