An 81-year-old woman was found stabbed to death in the 8500 block of Jenny Drive in St. Louis County around 11 a.m. Sunday and St. Louis Police were able to apprehend a suspect in her killing late Sunday afternoon at a gas station on Natural Bridge Road near Union.
St. Louis County police spokesperson Vera Clay said that when the woman was found, they were able to quickly identify a suspect and a vehicle and put out that information to neighboring law enforcement.
St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Officers located the vehicle at the Crown Mart gas station at Natural Bridge Road and Union. SLMPD spokesman Mitch McCoy said that the suspect, who was not identified, refused to get out of the vehicle and SWAT units were called.
Police also cleared out pedestrians and citizens from the location and shut down the intersection while they negotiated with the suspect.
McCoy said that eventually bean bags and “flash bangs” were used to take the suspect into custody in a non-lethal manner.
He was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
“Any time we try to take a suspect into custody, we use the least amount of force as possible to do it.”
Clay said there was no indication if there was a relationship between the suspect and the victim.
