A member of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party was punched in the face on Saturday by a man at an information stand in Dresden, the party said.


Hans-Jürgen Zickler, 70, a member of the AfD state parliament in Saxony, was suddenly assaulted, according to AfD Saxony spokesman Andreas Harlass.


Dresden police confirmed the incident. The attacker was detained until the police arrived and criminal charges were filed.


The Dresden Police department confirmed the incident, which occurred at a polling station. They recorded the personal details of the assailant, a 47-year-old man. The suspect will be investigated for the crime of inflicting bodily harm. For privacy reasons, the police have withheld the name of the suspect.
