After helping push a nearby employee out of harm’s way, Delaware State Police Cpl. Matthew “Ty” Snook lost his life in the line of duty on December 23, 2025. Snook, 34, was working an overtime assignment at a DMV office near Wilmington when a shooting occurred. Authorities said his actions helped protect others before he was critically injured. He later died at a local hospital.

Snook was a 10-year veteran of the Delaware State Police and was described by colleagues as dependable, professional, and committed to his work. At home, he was known as kind and steady, devoted to his wife and their young daughter.

A Delaware native, Snook graduated from the University of Maryland, where he was a member of the wrestling team. Community members and officials have expressed condolences, remembering him as a trusted trooper, loving family man, and dedicated public servant whose loss is deeply felt across the state.
