Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Senzo Boyboy Makhaula has committed suicide.
The community of Ethushanang has been shaken by the disappearance of Senzo “Boyboy” Makhaula (17), who vanished after leaving behind a suicide note and his school report. His absence plunged his family into anguish, fearing the worst.
But in the late hours of Tuesday night, 9 December 2025, hope returned.
The Rescue
Around 22h20, with electricity cut off since 21h00, community patrollers moved silently through the dark streets of Thushanang.
Guided only by torches, they discovered Senzo at the back of his grandmother’s house, standing on a makeshift stool beneath a mango tree, a rope tied above him.
He was not himself, shouting at them to leave.
But one patroller, Melusi Ndzimande, stepped forward, knelt, and spoke to him through tears:
“Senzo mfowethu… I have no mother. I survive on R370 and the little the community gives us to patrol. Please don’t throw away your life. You have a grandmother, a father who works. Your mother where she is, she wants you to live. Yehla my brother, it’s not the end of life.”
His words pierced the darkness.
Senzo stepped down.
The boy who was almost lost was saved.
🌑 The Aftermath
Patrollers kept Senzo safe through the night until morning.
His grandmother, Zodwa Rose, confirmed:
“Y
es, they called me at 23h00 to say he was alive. In the morning I went to fetch him. He is okay, but still crying. Police advised me to involve a therapist immediately.”
Rose, overwhelmed, admitted she cannot carry the burden alone.
She plans for Senzo to move to Sandton next year to live with his father, Jabu, hoping a new environment will bring healing.
This is not just about a missing boy.
It is about the fragility of youth, the weight of failure, the silence of grief after losing a mother, and the power of community voices that refused to let him die.
It is about the reminder that words can save, that presence can heal, and that no child should ever feel alone in their pain.
