Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that student, Athabile Khanye Mthembu, has committed suicide after being dragged from classroom by alleged taxi drivers in Inanda without offering her water.

According to information, Athabile Khanye, was kidnapped and raped.

A family from Maphephetheni, Inanda, is demanding justice for a student who committed suicide after crying about being kidnapped and raped by known suspects working in the taxi industry.

Athabile Khanyi (17), a Grade 11 student at Makhapha Combined School in the area, died at the Dr Pixley Ka-Isaka Seme Memorial Hospital in KwaMashu on Thursday after taking a large number of pills. READ MORE HERE

Narrating the incident, the deceased’s sister, Ms. Ntombifikile Mthembu, said that the two suspects, who were named by the deceased, kidnapped the deceased in a taxi on June 6, 2025, and found her waiting at a bus stop.

“They brought her back on Monday (June 9). She came home and told her family who had kidnapped her and they raped her in turns,” said Ms. Mthembu. She said that the family did not take what the deceased told them seriously, believing that she was lying and had gone to her own places.
