VIDEO: Chaquilla Ta’junea cries out after her son swollen face living in DHS foster

Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Chaquilla Ta’junea cries out after her son swollen face living in DHS foster.

OKLAHOMA — A mother is publicly asking for help after posting a video showing her child with visible injuries. She says her son is currently in the custody of Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS).

In the video, the mother states she is documenting the condition of her child “in case anything happens” while he is under DHS care. She says she is urgently trying to get her oldest child removed from the foster placement and returned to safety.

At this time, the circumstances surrounding how or where the injuries occurred have not been confirmed. The video reflects what the mother reports and what is visibly shown, but further facts have not yet been verified.

What is clear under Oklahoma law is that when DHS accepts custody of a child, the State assumes responsibility for that child’s safety and well-being, regardless of the reason the child entered care.

Children may enter DHS custody for many reasons that do not mean a parent is unfit, including severe behavioral challenges, safety concerns in the home, or situations where a parent is temporarily unable to keep a child or other children safe. Once custody is accepted, DHS remains legally responsible for the child.

Advocates have repeatedly raised concerns that older children in DHS custody are often overlooked, particularly those with behavioral or emotional challenges. Reports of harm, injuries, or safety concerns involving older youth may be delayed, minimized, or inadequately addressed.

Under Oklahoma law, every person is a mandated reporter. Reporting suspected child abuse or neglect is not limited to certain professions. Any person who believes a child may be unsafe has a legal obligation to report.

This situation raises serious questions that require prompt review:
• What occurred while the child was in DHS custody?
• Was the condition documented and reported?
• Was medical care provided?
• Is the current placement appropriate and safe?

Transparency and accountability are essential whenever concerns arise involving a child under state supervision.

Anyone with information or concerns about a child’s safety is urged to report it immediately to DHS AND local authorities.
