Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Eric Christian Diaz arrested after he beating up his girlfriend in an elevator in Botafogo.
The 1st Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ), which works with the 1st and 5th Domestic and Family Violence Courts of the Capital, has filed charges against American tourist Eric Christian Diaz Hernandez, 24. He is accused of beating his 22-year-old girlfriend, also American, in the early hours of October 26th, in an elevator in a building in Botafogo, in the South Zone of Rio.
A camera installed in the elevator captured the assault. The video shows that, in a span of just 19 seconds, the woman was hit with more than 20 punches to the face and head. According to the complaint filed by the Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPRJ), the couple was staying in an apartment rented for the season through an app, during a tourist trip to Brazil. After the incident, military police were called, arrested the aggressor on the spot, and took him to the Special Police Station for Tourist Assistance (DEAT).
The complaint was received by the court this Tuesday. The defendant participated in an evidentiary hearing at the 1st Court of Domestic and Family Violence against Women in the capital. The defense requested the return of his passport, but the request was denied due to the seriousness of the crime and the need to conclude the evidentiary phase. Now, the Public Prosecutor’s Office awaits the inclusion of the next investigative steps ordered by the court to proceed with the case.
