Football fans shocked to know DeMarcus Ware can sing while singing U.S national anthem at Hall of Fame Game.
Former Cowboys great DeMarcus Ware is no stranger to the NFL stage, earning a Pro Football Hall of Fame-caliber career in Dallas before finishing his career with a Super Bowl with the Broncos.
Ware, a four-time first-team All-Pro, nine-time Pro Bowler and two-time NFL sacks leader, made fear a useful tool as he harassed opposing defenses in Dallas (2005-13) and Denver (2014-16). In his combined 12-year career, he accumulated 138.5 sacks, 657 tackles and 229 quarterback hits.
Ware flashed a smile and his signature dimples after he concluded.
“Good for you DeMarcus Ware. That was cool,” play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico said. Analyst Cris Collinsworth added, “I’ve never cheered so hard for a football player in my whole life.”
Why is DeMarcus Ware singing national anthem?
Ware, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday along with the likes of Joe Thomas, Zach Thomas, Joe Klecko and more, will sing the national anthem for Thursday’s Hall of Fame game.
Ware will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday as part of the 2023 class.
The Super Bowl 50 champion admitted he was nervous ahead of time — “I wasn’t even this nervous during the Super Bowl. This is the most nervous that I have ever been in my life” — but you wouldn’t be able to tell as he sung along to the piano and held an epic closing note.
According to a Thursday report by the Dallas Morning News, Ware said he is singing the anthem in homage to Demaryius Thomas, his former Broncos teammate from 2014-16 with whom he used to sing the anthem on the sidelines. Thomas died in December 2021, with his family believing the likely cause of death to be a seizure.
