Young Thug’s attorney says het relies on eating chocolate and chips to survive in jail.
Alive 11 News reports that Thugger’s lawyer, Brian Steel, says the rapper is “languishing in the county jail” without bond due to a poor diet. He’s been incarcerated since he was arrested and subsequently indicted last May.
Steel says Thug is unable to stay healthy because he doesn’t have access to good food options, instead eating foods that have “zero health benefits” like chocolate and chips. Thug’s limited time outdoors has been impacting Thug’s health and he isn’t able to get much exercise either due to his small cell. The time he gets fresh air is when he’s taken to and from the courthouse. Steel also says Thug is “sleep-deprived,” only sleeping for five hours each night—and on court days, he has to wake up between 3 and 4 a.m.
Furthermore, the attorney stated that his reliance on those snacks, with no health benefits, reflect a lack of sustainable and healthy options for eating at the facility. In addition, he mentioned other factors lacking while he awaits trial, like access to sunlight, outdoor areas, and exercise. Also, Steel believes Young Thug is sleep-deprived. Not only does he apparently receive five hours of daily rest, but he has to be up between 3 and 4 a.m. when summoned in court.
Young Thug has been indicted on a gang activity charge, stemming from 2018, and a charge of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act from 2013. Gunna and 28 other people were also arrested last May, and charged in a 56-count RICO indictment. Gunna and other associates have accepted plea deals over the last few months, which allowed them to circumvent prison and trial. Thug has maintained his innocence the entire time. This is the fourth motion for bond filed by his attorney; the previous three have been denied…..
Despite the gravity of these issues and their potential consequences, this marks the “Best Friend” MC’s fourth attempt at bond. All previous efforts proved unsuccessful, so to reiterate them certainly can’t bode good news when it comes to his health. However, with a smile in court every once in a while or updates from loved ones, fans have kept their head high. Attorney Brian Steel hopes the court grants Thugger a temporary release. Specifically, he stood by the fact that “conditions can be imposed which permit bond to be set.” Along with all the other antics in this trial, this is one of the more concerning updates.
