Duncan Robinson is the fastest player in NBA history to reach 800 career 3PM

Duncan Robinson is the fastest player in NBA history to reach 800 career 3PM.

The Miami Heat have done it again.

They found another diamond in the rough, a guy that couldn’t thrive somewhere else, and turned him into a legit NBA rotation player.

Duncan Robinson was an afterthought for most of his basketball career. Then, he found a home in South Florida.

Fast-forward to today, and the sharpshooter has now made NBA history by becoming the fastest player to reach the 800-three-pointer plateau.

Robinson only needed 263 career games to reach that milestone, breaking Luka Doncic‘s previous record of 288 games.

Moreover, he’s now the fastest player to hit 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, and 800 triples in NBA history, and that’s despite not being on the floor for that long.

Also, he’s just 4 three-pointers away from taking down Tim Hardaway‘s spot as the leading three-point shooter in Heat history.

Robinson has been in and out of the rotation this season, which is why an unnamed NBA executive believes he would be better off on a team like the Atlanta Hawks, as they could use a floor-spacer like him:

“Man, Robinson needs a change of scenery. Just getting him somewhere else and letting him play, let him build up his confidence again—he can be a dangerous floor-spacer for a team like Atlanta with Trae (Young) and (Dejounte) Murray,” the executive said. “The Heat really like the potential Jovic has but they are an old team, they need to win now and Collins fills a huge need for them. But Atlanta does not want to fall off the map and taking a risk on Robinson, that is too much of a gamble.”

In order, the previous four players who had been fastest to 800 are:

Luka Doncic – 288 games
Buddy Hield – 296 games
Donovan Mitchell – 302 games
Steph Curry – 305 games

Robinson now has 802 career threes and is four away from tying Tim Hardaway for the all-time lead in franchise threes.

During the Heat’s 113-110 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Robinson made three triples in 14 minutes of play, adding to his career total of 799 entering the night. And in the process of doing so, he became the fastest player in NBA history to make at least 800+ triples, per Anthony Chiang, achieving a feat that even those aforementioned historic snipers weren’t able to accomplish.

Duncan Robinson, who has only played in 263 games for his career, has averaged around three triples per game to set the aforementioned record, no small feat for an undrafted guard. However, it’d be no surprise if he fell off his current pace. The Heat have relegated Robinson to a bit role off the bench, a far cry from the featured role he had from his breakout 2019-20 campaign until last season.
